Project: Plant development with increased biogas production from industrial waste streams

The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is implemented within the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020

A short description of the project

The company CROTEH Ltd, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the Croatian Agency for Small Economy, Innovations, and Investments (HAMAG BICRO) signed Grant Agreement Number KK01.2.1.02.0070 for the implementation of the Project Plant Development with Increased Biogas Production from Industrial Waste Streams.

As part of this project and with the aim of developing a new product, CROTEH Ltd is trying to develop a plant with increased biogas production that will enable efficient anaerobic treatment of industrial wastewater containing high concentrations of suspended solids.

The project is worth 8,434,436.73 HRK, and the total eligible project costs amount to 8,103,121.95 HRK. The grants awarded amount to 4,336,823.80 HRK.

The foreseen project duration is 36 months.

Project implementation period 

The project was implemented from August 23, 2020 to August 23, 2023.

The genereal goal of the project

  1. Advance and intensify R&D
  2. Increase the volume of cooperation between the private sector and scientific research
  3. Research and Development aiming at developing a product in the S3 area representing innovation in the global market

  4. Increasing competitiveness and sustainable growth and development of project partners

Project purpose (specific objectives)

Develop an innovative reactor prototype for the treatment of waste streams from the food industry (the brewing industry) that, along with wastewater, also processes mud waste streams, e.g. waste water + yeast. Innovation on TRL 2 will, through the project research activities, lead to TRL 4 and result in prototyping by TRL 8.

Expected deliverables of the project

  • Advanced and intensified R&D at CROTEH
  • Increased volume of cooperation between CROTEH and R&D organisations, i.e. between the private sector and the scientific and research community
  • Research and Development at CROTEH aiming at developing an innovative solution in the S3 area representing innovation in the market
  • Increase the competitiveness of CROTEH and its sustainable growth and development
  • The total value of the project is: HRK 8,434,436.73 (EUR 1,119,442.13) .
  • The total eligible project costs amount to HRK 8,103,121.95 (EUR 1,075,469.1) .
  • The EU co-financing amounts to HRK 4,336,823.80 (EUR 575,595.43).
