Project: Innovative reactor for the treatment of industrial waste streams with increased biogas production
The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Fund for Regional Development, which is implemented as part of the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020.
Short description of the project
The company CROTEH Ltd signed with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Croatian Agency for SMEs, Innovations and Investments (HAMAG BICRO) the Grant Agreement No. PoC7_8_19. for the implementation of the project “Innovative reactor for the treatment of industrial waste streams with increased biogas production”.
The project envisages the creation of a prototype and the verification of the concept of an innovative reactor that will enable efficient treatment of waste water rich in organic substances with increased biogas production.
The total value of the project is HRK 499,075.42, and the allocated grants amount to HRK 347,659.90. The duration of the project is 12 months.
Implementation period of the project
The project was implemented from November 30, 2018 until November 29, 2019.
General goal of the project
The main goal of the project is to verify the innovative concept of the reactor for the anaerobic treatment of industrial wastewater containing a high concentration of suspended substances.
Purpose of the project (specific objectives)
To verify the innovative concept of a reactor for the treatment of wastewater containing a high concentration of suspended substances. The reactor consists of (a) an antechamber in which the process of hydrolysis, i.e. dissolution of suspended substances takes place, and (b) a main chamber in which the anaerobic treatment of wastewater (with a low concentration of suspended substances) takes place in a mixture with dissolved suspended substances from the antechamber.
Expected results of the project
- The rate of decomposition of suspended substances of 50-65% during 1-2 days
- A laboratory-scale reactor prototype was created
- Biogas production of a minimum of 1.8 m3 of biogas per m3 of substrate
- Stable biogas production during continuous operation
- A market analysis was made
- Entrusted patentability of the technical solution
- Intellectual property protection procedure initiated
The total value of the project is: HRK 499.075,42 (EUR 66.209,15)
Total acceptable costs amount to: HRK 347.659,90 (EUR 46.121,82)

Results after the project implementation
