Waste Type Regulation
The Waste Type Regulation establishes a standardized system for classifying waste in Croatia, ensuring that every waste stream is assigned to a clearly defined category and code. This system supports consistent documentation, traceability, and waste management throughout the entire lifecycle – from generation to treatment and disposal.
Waste Classification
The regulation aligns with the European Waste Catalogue (EWC), allowing waste to be identified and classified consistently across the EU.
Waste is classified based on:
Source of origin
- Municipal waste
- Industrial waste
- Construction waste
- Agricultural and food-processing waste
- Special waste categories (including hazardous waste)
Hazardous properties
- Hazardous waste (contains substances that may harm human health or the environment)
- Non-hazardous waste (does not exhibit hazardous properties)
EWC Waste Codes
Every waste type receives a unique EWC code (e.g., 19 05 03, 20 03 01), which is used for:
- Waste records
- Accompanying documentation
- Registration in waste management information systems
Related Testing and Waste Characterization
Depending on the waste type, we provide the following services to facilitate waste classification and treatment options:
- Moisture and dry solids content
- Organic matter analysis (TOC, LOI)
- Leachate testing (pollutant release potential)
- Heavy metals analysis
- Physical properties (particle size distribution, density)
- Calorific value (for waste-to-energy applications)
